The World Soundscape Project, brainchild of R. Murray Schafer, was
the earliest organized exploration of acoustic ecology. Combining sociology,
urban planning, ecology, philosophy, and the arts, the echoes of their
time together in the 1970's reverberates through virtually all of the
artists' work presented here. This track is a celebration of the music
of both horns and those who blow them: boat captains and train engineers
make the most of their horns. These tapes being from the 1972 Vancouver
Soundscape project, we also hear the now-rare sound of steam-powered
factory shift-change whistles.
