Rapid Response, a dynamic group of artists, designers and architects in New York City, takes art to the streets to highlight the global need for renewable fuel sources. "We are both an agit-prop group and a group which develops alternative fueling scenarios we hope will lead to large-scale production of non-fossil based fuels", they explain. "RAPID is our brand."

As a group, Rapid Response uses the techniques of corporate mass marketing culture to design and install provocative signs near gas stations. They create gallery installations complete with mock Ethanol and Bio-Diesel fuel pumps and participate in street protests to call attention to the dangers of reliance on fossil fuels. They envision a multinational corporate future for RAPID fuel which intends to use its art world pedigree to support a global network of renewable "post petroleum" fueling stations. Rapid Response’s group approach to art echoes the complex flow of money, molecules, and traffic they criticize in their work. Their "Global Warning" is also a global call for action. (top)
